Baseball
Game 1: Florida National 11, Penn State Schuylkill 0 (5 innings)
Mario Benjamin went the distance for Florida National allowing five hits and striking out five as the Conquistadors scored two in the third, four in the fourth and five in the fifth to end the opening game via the 10-run rule. Jeremy De La Cruz was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run, while Jason Altuve was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs for Florida National. Yordangel Gonzalez drive in two runs with a double, while Jordan Lewis drove in two with a home run to start the scoring in the third. Brenan Adams had two hits to lead Penn State Schuylkill.

Game 2: Penn State York 4, Wright State-Lake Campus 3
A grand slam from Brandon Ritchey in the third inning proved to be the game-winning hit as Penn State York rallied from a three-run deficit to defeat Wright State. The Lakers scored three runs in the bottom of the first on RBI doubles from Brady Hobert, Noah McEldowney and a sacrifice fly from Jacob Barr. Penn State York started the third with a single by Gavin Constein and he moved up on a Nate Uzelac single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and a walk to Andrew Miller loaded the bases to set up Ritchey.

Game 3: Atlantis 11, Apprentice School 8
First-time participant Atlantis scored five runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and held off a late Apprentice School rally to knock off the Builders. Eight of nine batters for Atlantis had two or more hits as Justin Suarez was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while Gianni Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with five RBIs. He hit a three-run home run in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4, and then had a two-run single in the seventh which put his team ahead 11-5. In the seventh, the Builders scored on a two-run triple from Hunter Johnson and he scored on a Riggs Ellis single. That was the final runs as Atlantis held off Apprentice School. Jeremy Harmon, Matt Phoebus and Jett Winslow had two hits each for the Builders.

Game 4: Miami-Hamilton 6, Mid-Atlantic Christian 1
Joe Requarth and Dylan Polk had two hits apiece to lead Miami-Hamilton as they defeated Mid-Atlantic Christian in an opening round game at Showers Field. MACU scored a run in the first on an RBI double from Landen Miller to score Adam Schell. Miami-Hamilton answered with one in its half of the inning on a solo blast from Bradley Vargas. The Harriers scored twice in the third on an RBI single from Dylan Polk and a bases loaded walk to Shane Keys. In the fifth, Keys had an RBI single, Van Cisle drove in one on a sacrifice fly and Chris Hoffmann singled in the final run.

Game 5: Cincinnati-Clermont 8, Florida National 6
Cincinnati-Clermont rallied from an early 5-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth and five in the sixth as they defeated Florida National. The Conquistadors had a run in the first on a Jordan Lewis leadoff home run. In the second Roberto Fernandez singled in a run and Lewis drive in two more with a single. A single from Adrian Roman put FNU up 5-0 after two. Lewis was 3-for-4 on the day with three RBIs to lead a 14-hit FNU attack. A three-run home run from Dylan Leytze got Cincinnati-Clermont on the board in the fourth. They scored five in the sixth highlighted by a two-run double from Jack Deeds for the final margin. Leytze drove in three runs, while Deeds added two RBI’s for the victors.
Next up: UC-Clermont vs. Miami-Hamilton, 4pm Tuesday, Showers Field; Florida National vs. Penn State Schuylkill-Mid-Atlantic Christian winner, 7 pm Tuesday, Stern Field.
A two-out single from Brett Beith scored Braylen Corter with the winning run as Penn State DuBois defeated Penn State York in the final game of day one. Each team scored two runs in the first and then again in the sixth inning. Penn State York took a 4-2 lead on a two-run home run from Sam Richie. DuBois responded with RBI singles from Cory Lehman and Tylor Herzing to tie the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the seventh, J. Sikora singled and was pinch-ran for by Corter who advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Bodtorf. After an intentional walk to Kyle Elansky, a fly out from Lillard moved Corter to third. Beith followed with a single to left for the game-winner.

Softball
Game 1: Southern Maine CC 1, Carlow 0
A Delanie Perry single to score Veronica Mercier in the first inning proved to be the only run as Southern Maine CC defeated Carlow in the tournament opener. Mercier singled to lead off the bottom of the first and stole second. After two outs, Perry singled to right center to plate Mercier for the 1-0 lead. Sarah Wilkins made that stand in the circle for Southern Maine CC as she allowed four hits and struck out two for the Seawolves in winning her ninth game of the season. Clara Niglio was just as solid for Carlow allowing four hits, striking out five and having one of Carlow’s four hits on the day.

Game 2: Salem 7, Penn State DuBois 4
Kayla Williams was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs as Salem held off a late charge from Penn State DuBois to win its first round game. Williams drove in a run in the second on a triple and drove in two more in the third on a single to help propel her team to a 7-1 advantage after three innings. Kaydee Anderson joined her in double figure hits with a 2-for-3 performance scoring twice. Penn State DuBois made a charge on the strength of a two-run double from Natalie Bowser in the sixth and a bases loaded walk to Kamryn McTavish in the seventh, but couldn’t pull closer. Bowser was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Game 3: Penn State New Kensington 11, Bay Path 3 (5 innings)
Penn State New Kensington scored 11 unanswered runs, six of those in the fifth inning to end their first round game via the eight-run rule. Bay Path scored all of its runs in the first inning as Madisyn Vera’s bunt single forced an errant throw allowing Emma Scheeren to score. Caroline Austin followed with a two-run double for a 3-0 Bay Path lead after one-half inning. Penn State New Kensington’s top three in its lineup all were 3-for-4 as Madison Hoyt scored twice, Kali Barnett scored three times and drove in four, while Olivia Waldrop scored once and drove in three runs. Winning pitcher Linda Shepard ended the game with a sacrifice fly in the fifth to put the score 11-3.

Game 4: Penn State Brandywine 5, Southern Maine CC 4 (8 innings)
A Jess James single in the bottom of the eighth scored Meghan Perry as Penn State Brandywine defeated Southern Maine CC in eight innings. SMCC trailed 1-0 in the second when Maddie Webb singled in Delanie Perry to tie the game. Emily Hutchins stroked a two-run home run in the third to push the Seawolves up 3-1. Run scoring singles from Kaylee Mushinski and Karly Rees tied the game at 3-3 for Penn State Brandywine and a run from James scoring on a wild pitch put them up 4-3 in the fourth. Perry tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth with an RBI single and the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the eighth. Rees was 4-for-4 for SMCC, while Hutchins, Perry and Abigail Ontengco had two hits apiece for Penn State Brandywine.

Game 5: Penn State Mont Alto 5, Salem 4
Winning pitcher Delaney Glazier’s one-out single in the bottom of the seventh scored Kirsten Dell with the winning run as Penn State Mont Alto defeated Salem. In the seventh, Skye Herring singled and was pinch-ran for by Rachel Alleman who proceeded to steal second. After a strikeout, Dani-Lynn Barklow doubled in Alleman and she was pinch-ran for by MacKenzie Starke with the score 4-2. Dell then doubled in Starke to trim deficit to 4-3 before Abigail Cunningham scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 4-4 to set up Glazier’s heroics. Meladie Larance, Syriah Trujillo and Abigail Harki had two hits each for Salem. Trujillo started the sixth with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by A. Pittman for a 4-1 Salem advantage.

Game 6: Penn State Schuylkill 1, Lyon 0
Alyssa Youst singled and stayed in a run-down long enough to allow Jade Weiss to score in the bottom of the sixth as Penn State Schuylkill defeated Lyon 1-0 to end day one.
A pitchers duel between McKenzie Campbell of Lyon and Emma Crisswell of Penn State Schuylkill made the game scoreless through five innings. Campbell had nine strikeouts and allowed three hits, while Crisswell had six strikeouts and allowed just two hits. In the sixth, Weiss beat out an infield single and stole second on a strikeout. After a lineout, Youst singled to left and stayed in a run-down long enough to give Weiss the chance to score for the 1-0 lead. That was the lone run Crisswell needed as she got a foul out to the catcher, an infield pop up and a strikeout looking to end the game.
